On occasion of the Conference of Women of the French speaking countries (February 4 and 5, 2000 to Luxemburg), the Academic agency of the French speaking countries has just put in place a forum of virtual discussion �Women and Science�.

This forum must serve to promote to the equality of odds research at the level and to stimulate research for, on and by women. Reasons of the woman under - representation in research and notably obstacles that pull up this involvement to the different stages of their careers scientist will be the main themes landed within the forum. A particular lighting will be given to difficulties that meet women of the South.

It will be about making an inventory of situations and questions considered like problematic for women and to formulate propositions on their real and potential roles in the different sectors of activity, innovation and research, formation and education, then to clear factors susceptible to increase the equality of odds and the expertise of women as well as a better respective collegiate behavior recognition between men and women in the academic life and his/her/its related contexts, notably in activities of cooperation, networks of communication, exchanges scientific interculturels�

This large debate will permit to mobilize opinions and to make better know preoccupations of women (problems and obstacles that they meet in the stake in �uvre of their projects, within the French-speaking scientific community).

The forum �Women and Science� is organized from the Africa office of the Academic agency of the French speaking countries, situated in Dakar. The opening of this forum took place February 01 2000 and more of 200 women are written down himself already (the majority of the participating is descended of countries of the South, Tunisia, Cameroon, Gabon, Mali�).

The initial phase of this forum �Women and Science� will be of three months. A phase of reflection will be committed then on orientation to follow, thanks to propositions cleared by the participating to the forum. The medium-term goal is the creation of a virtual laboratory of French-speaking research to hire a real f�minisation of the science for the development.
