WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS A NON EDITED MACHINE TRANSLATION FROM THE ORIGINAL IN SPANISH THIS MESSAGE REPLIES TO Sebastian Lara, , Re: MISTICA-EN: Democ.: The Internet and the civil society, 18/01/2000. Sebastian is approaching an underlying fundamental topic to the social impact of the ICT that we have not even played in the VC. Exactly in those moments and from several weeks my work instrument is behaving in a strange way as if with the years is getting tired: -)! The memory doesn't reach Windows and the applications become slow and sometimes you trancan. We are near diagnosing some virus type (although it could be the program Internet Explorer) that has like goal to penalize the applications that are not of Microsoft (in my case Eudora and Netscape), like it has passed some colleagues previously. Funredes has been given the internal goal, to medium term (for lack of qualified resources) of migrar its work stations to Linux and this way to be liberated of the environment of the products of the company Microsoft. Long term, we want to participate of the movement of the free programs, so important for their indirect social impact There is conversing several times with Mr. Bernard Lang of the INRIA in France secretary of the French Association of users Linux who heads from several years an efficient crusade in favor of Linux and who it confirmed me recently that now it exists the equivalent one and the compatibility of format exchange, low Linux, of all the programs of use current in a PC (text editor, leaf of I calculate, electronic mail, " browser ", editors of presentations). The difficult thing, like in all the bad habits, it is to negotiate the change without penalizing their day... AND that makes us dilate the decision. Perhaps we can continue inside this VC the very hit upon suggestion of Sebastian and to focus this key aspect for a future of the ICT easier of being adapted by the users and appropriate to a social use... But that he/she goes beyond a reflection and that we can lean on mutually to orchestrate the change. There are surely expert people in the use of Linux in PC that you/they can help us (the use of Linux in servants Internet doesn't require this expertiz). Sebastian has the whole reason on that we cannot continue proclaiming the social use of the ICT being prisoners of a work environment that we have not decided and that it imposes most a direct rhythm of expensive improvements and indirectly, mainly to solve the problems of previous versions and that it penalizes for the lack of compatibility to people that want to resist. |
