NETWORKS AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION - FUNREDES

The Network and Development Foundation (FUNREDES: http://funredes.org/english) invites all the interested people to take part in a contest of webdesign. This competition includes three categories, as described below. Only one proposal per candidate and category will be accepted (for a total of three proposals per participant). For reasons of harmony and unit in graphics, it is strongly recommended to each one to compete in the three categories. The prizes will be distributed as follows:

• to the winner of one category: US$200 (two hundred American dollars)
• to the winner of two categories: US$500 (five hundred American dollars)
• to the winner of the three categories: US$900 (nine hundred American dollars)

In addition, the works ot the first three of each category will be exposed on the FUNREDES website (with credits) during one year (one month with direct access from the homepage). The results will be published on the Web site.

The three categories are:

1. the homepage of the site funredes.org
2. the main page in one of the three languages of the site (French, Spanish, English)
3. a template for the pages of the site

General Conditions for Participation

• This contest is open to everyone, without any distinction based on age, gender, nationality, etc.
• By receiving their prizes, the winners surrender the property of their work to Funredes; however, Funredes will give them credits.
• The contest takes place from December 23, 1998 to January 31, 1999. Any sending made after January 31, 1999 (31/01/1999) will not be taken into account. The results will be published on the website of Funredes on March 1, 1999.
• Participations must be sent only by e-mail, to the following address: <[email protected]>.
• Moreover, the participants must:
  • send one message per category
  • indicate in the "subject" field the category in which they present their work
  • provide the following information in the body of the message: first name(s), last name, e-mail address
  • use the "attach" function with MIME and the formats HTML and JPG or GIF

General requirements for the graphic part

We have listed below some essential elements of the institutional image that Funredes aims at projecting through its website presentation. The jury will make its final decision mainly based on the capacity of the graphics to express this image.

• small grassroot NGO
• research/action
• website with own original contents
• communication before technology
• focus on the Caribbean, with a vision at the whole South
• audience of the site: researchers, scholars, NGOs, international organizations, actors of the international cooperation...
• spirit: ethics, complete independence, and some provocation
• respect for languages, cultures, minorities

1. The homepage of funredes.org

This page is the homepage of the site (http://funredes.org); the text it contains is available in three languages.

Minimum contents of the page:

• Funredes' logo
• the three mentions: Fundación Redes y Desarrollo - Association Réseaux et Développement - Networks and Development Foundation
• in each of the three languages:
  • a paragraph of presentation (written by Funredes, please consider approximately 400 characters)
  • the possibility of choosing between two versions: a basic "text" version, and a more sophisticated version
• details of the page :

2. The Main Page in Each of the Three Languages of the Site (French, Spanish, English)

This page is the homepage of each section of the site, according to the selected language. The text is available in only one language. The candidate may present a proposal in French, Spanish or English.

Minimum contents of the page:

• the logo
• Networks and Development Foundation (or the whole name in the language chosen by the candidate for the proposal)
• a general paragraph (written by Funredes, please consider approximately 400 characters)
• the possibility to get access to the two versions (as explained above)
• a table of contents, including 10 entries (content written by Funredes, please consider a three to six word title for each section, and a short description (100-150 characters) for each section)
• a spot for the new releases and advertisements of Funredes
• details of the page (to be adapted according to the language chosen by the candidate for the proposal):

3. A template for the pages of the site

This model is to be designed to fit any page of information available in the Funredes site. The text is available in only one language. The candidate may present a proposal in French, Spanish or English.

Minimum contents of the page:

• Networks and Development Foundation (or the whole name in the language chosen by the candidate for the proposal)
• a static part:
  • an access to the two versions (as explained above)
  • the headers of the table of contents, as described above
  • details of the page (to be adapted according to the language chosen by the candidate for the proposal): identical to the ones indicated for category 2.
• a "dynamic" part, which changes according to the topic of the page: a text (written by Funredes; for this model, please include at least, with any content for the text itself: a main header, three three paragraph chapters, a table, two lists)
