NETWORKS AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION - FUNREDES

We warmly thank all the people who participated in the concourse, and gave their time and energy to send submissions of high quality.

The participation

The concourse, which took place from December 23, 1998 to January 31, 1999, received submissions from 11 people. Here are some data about the participation:

• out of the 11 submissions, 10 were sent during the last 36 hours before the deadline
• out of the 11 submissions, 4 are from Mexico, 4 from Canada, 2 from France, 1 from Peru
• out of the 11 submissions, 7 come from men, 4 from women
• out of the 11 submissions, 5 sent their messages in Spanish, 3 in French, 3 in English

Funredes cannot give you more information because the concourse is open to everyone without any discrimination; hence, personal data have not been collected.

The ranking

The jury

There are 6 (six) jurors. The jury is formed by the following people:

• Catherine Dhaussy: employee and consultant at Funredes, member of the BoT
• Christian Helfrich: former employee and webmaster at Funredes
• Senaida Jansen: consultant for Funredes, member of the BoT
• Yacine Khelladi: former employee at Funredes, now consultant
• Daniel Pimienta: director of Funredes, president of the BoT
• Éric Quintane: former intern at Funredes, in communication and public relations

The criteria

A list of five criteria has been made for the jury. The candidates will all be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Each of the criteria receives a grade out of 10, which is weighed by a given coefficient. This gives a total out of 45 points. Then 0 to 15 points are added, according to the respect for the conventions and indications given in the rules. Out of 60 points, 25% are then given to subjectivity (aesthetics), and 25% to very objectives parameters (respect for the rules).

The scale

Here is the scale which corresponds to the grades:

• 10 : outstanding
• 8-9 : excellent
• 6-7 : good
• 4-5 : fair
• 3 and less : poor

A grade inferior to 6/10 may be given to a work of quality, but which cannot be accepted by the jury as a model for the website of Funredes. If none of the submissions of a given category reaches 35/60, the prize will then not be awarded.

The agenda

Here are the important deadlines of the concourse:

• 12/23/1998: launching of the concourse
• 1/31/1999: closing of the concourse
• 2/10/1999: online exhibition of the submissions sent by the candidates
• 2/15/1999: delivery of grades and opinions by the jurors
• 2/16/1999: beginning of the deliberations
• 3/1/1999 (for the later): public proclamation of the final results

The submissions

The candidates have sent one, two, or three submissions, which correspond to the three following categories:

1. the homepage of the site funredes.org
2. the main page in one of the three languages of the site (French, Spanish, English)
3. a template for the pages of the site
