NOTES ON THE CULTURE OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The ethnic groups that will provide the biggest flow of features and
complex to the national culture are the Spanish and the African, with an
evident and unquestionable prevalence of the first over the second in spite
of the opinion of some sociologists
and historians whose position aganints the spanish takes them to minimize
the Hispanic preponderance to raise the influences exercised by the slaves
of different African nations. This false attitude must be seen, however,
like a reaction in front of the ideology of the bourgeois class and
"espaolizante", in the one which the prejudices
racial, together to an incomprehension of the past, colored of
ethnocentrism and that the Haitian invasions of the I continue XIX they
increased to the maximum, they prevented to value the African slave's rich
bottom etnografic exactly, and, in consequence, their taxes to the
vernacular culture.
