Desde 1985 le he dado seguimiento a la trayectoria art�stica de Jean
Girigori. He confrontado el desaf�o, el est�mulo y la provocaci�n como
virtualidades de una actitud espiritual y una pr�ctica art�stica
realmente excepcionales. Durante mas de 30 a�os esta consagrada artista
curazole�a ha llegado a realizar una vast�sima y sugestiva producci�n
pict�rica en la que aborda la naturaleza, las esencias, las maravillas
del paisaje, la memoria y las circunstancias tr�gicas que determinan la
vida cotidiana de los pueblos del Caribe.

Jean Girigori naci� en la Republica Dominicana en el a�o 1948, de padre
curazole�o y madre dominicana. Durante 13 a�os vivi� en Puerto Pr�ncipe,
Hait�, donde realizo sus primeros estudios y fue compa�era del afamado
pintor y escritor haitiano George Paul H�ctor. En 1968 realiza su
primera exposici�n individual en el "Cumbio Studio" de Puerto Pr�ncipe,
bajo la orientaci�n del propio George Paul H�ctor. En 1970 expone por
primera vez de manera colectiva en la Republica Dominicana (Aerovia
Quisqueyana) y al siguiente a�o participa en una exposici�n en el
Montego Beach Hotel de Kingston, Jamaica.

En 1972 Jean Girigori instala su taller en Curazao. Entre 1977-79
realiza cuatro exposiciones individuales en la Galer�a Libertas, el
Centro pro Arte y el Cultureel Centrum Cura�ao. Desde 1978 hasta 1980
estudia en la Art Students League de Nueva York, bajo la orientaci�n del
reconocido artista norteamericano Knox Martin. En este �ltimo a�o exhibe
su obra en la Art Students League y en Women�s Art Gallery de Nueva
York. Entre 1981 y 1983 retorna a la Art Students League de Nueva York
para recibir lecciones de escultura bajo la orientaci�n del profesor y
escultor Jos� de Creeft. Jean Girigori ha vivido en Hait�, Estados
Unidos, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Rep�blica Dominicana y Holanda. La suya
podr�a ser una de las experiencias m�s intensas y complejas que haya
vivido una mujer artista de la regi�n del Caribe en las �ltimas tres
d�cadas.

Pero esta misma experiencia le ha llevado a la creaci�n de una pintura
cuya autenticidad, fuerza expresiva y riqueza simb�lica le ganan
significado y trascendencia , no s�lo en el �mbito de las Antillas
Holandesas, donde se ha destacado por su dedicaci�n a la proyecci�n de
las diversas manifestaciones culturales de Curazao, manteniendo all� su
estudio y trabajando en favor del desarrollo de la sensibilidad
art�stica entre la juventud, sino tambi�n en espacios e instituciones
culturales de Latinoam�rica y Europa. En las ultimas dos d�cadas ha sido
ella, precisamente, la personalidad art�stica que m�s ha motivado el
inter�s de la cr�tica, las galer�as y los museos del Caribe hispano por
el arte contempor�neo de las Antillas Holandesas.

Su extraordinaria producci�n pict�rica, su honestidad y osad�a a la hora
de la invenci�n de su vibrante mundo visual, su c�lida y energ�tica
gestualidad a la hora del ejercicio creador con la tela, los colores,
los pinceles y la imaginaci�n, nos permiten apreciar la personalidad
art�stica de Jean Girigori como uno de los acontecimientos mas
sugestivos dentro de la realidad art�stica caribe�a del �ltimo cuarto
del siglo XX. Ante la tela en blanco procede con el mismo entusiasmo que
frente a la vida. Artista incontenible, desenfrenada, cuya conducta es
pintar siempre, adoptando diversos estilos y lenguajes y haciendo de los
grandes problemas sociales y existenciales de nuestro tiempo las
motivaciones medulares de su po�tica. Figuraci�n libre, neoexpresionismo
de fuerza primordial y expresionismo abstracto, afirm�ndose
constantemente en un barroquismo de exaltada policrom�a, se�alan
formalmente los mejores momentos en la pintura de Girigori.

Circunstancialmente ella adoptar� un lenguaje y una serie de gamas
crom�ticas para cada intenci�n. Se vale de la neofiguraci�n
expresionista para proponer una reflexi�n conmovedora ante la realidad
tr�gica de la pobreza, el abuso y la explotaci�n infantil en la mayor�a
de los pa�ses e islas del Caribe, as� como para denunciar los precarios
valores que sostienen actualmente la condici�n humana, la libertad, la
"normalidad" psicol�gica de los individuos y hasta los fr�giles soportes
del orden sociopol�tico globalizado.

La gestualidad espont�nea y la abstracci�n expresionista le sirven para
expresar sus convicciones, sentimientos y emociones m�s �ntimas.

Hay una historia representada o cifrada en cada obra pict�rica de Jean
Girigori. En sus trazos y en sus im�genes muchas veces surgen los signos
de la violencia como referencia simb�lica de la realidad, como
desenmascaramiento y negaci�n del orden y el poder autoritarios.

Muchos de sus hallazgos pict�ricos son reiterativos en su tem�tica.
Durante m�s de veinte a�os no ha dejado de agregar cuadros a su ya
c�lebre serie de "Futuro Incierto", en la que aborda el tema de la
situaci�n de la ni�ez de la calle, proponiendo una confrontaci�n
comprometida contra el abuso de la inocencia, contra la situaci�n de
indigencia, opresi�n y degradaci�n de muchos ni�os, ni�as y adolescentes
de Santo Domingo, Jamaica, Hait�, Curazao y otros pueblos del Caribe,
Africa y Am�rica Latina.

Sin embargo, la obra pict�rica de Jean Girigori no s�lo contiene la
impugnaci�n de la realidad y del presente. Ella tambi�n se retroalimenta
con el tesoro de sus vivencias, de sus interioridades. Su temperamento
est� permanentemente desbocado hacia las ilusiones, hacia la poes�a,
hacia la celebraci�n de la riqueza del tiempo, de la vida, de la
naturaleza. A trav�s del estallido de un universo que emerge en la
transparente policrom�a ella expresa y materializa espl�ndidamente sus
ideas y sus emociones mas vitales para proponernos un di�logo aut�ntico
y sencillo ante el cual no hay resistencia posible. El barroquismo
maravilloso del entorno caribe�o es deslumbramiento, celebraci�n
cristalina en un contrastante juego de gamas y texturas que le ganan
efectividad a la superficie pict�rica. As� encontramos en el espacio
pict�rico de Jean Girigori una proliferaci�n de atm�sferas y tonos
c�lidos, r�tmicos. Espacio animado por planos, l�neas, topolog�as,
siluetas y configuraciones de m�gico poder sugestivo y extra�amente
sensacionales.

"El Caribe en R�tterdam", exposici�n itinerante presentada recientemente
en el TENT (Centro Cultural de R�tterdam) con artistas representativos
de las Antillas Holandesas, Cuba y Rep�blica Dominicana, ha significado
un momento definitivamente consagratorio en la trayectoria profesional
de la artista curazole�a Jean Girigori. Con varias exposiciones y la
edici�n de una monograf�a sobre su vida y su obra, proyectadas para el
2002, Girigori vive y trabaja entre Holanda, Curazao y Jarabacoa, donde
tiene planes de construir un museo y un centro cultural intercaribe�o.

>From 1985 I have given pursuit to the artistic trajectory of Jean
Girigori. I have confronted the challenge, the stimulus and the provocation like
virtualidades of a spiritual attitude and an artistic practice
really exceptional. During but of 30 years this consecrated artist
curazole�a has ended up carrying out a vast and suggestive production
pictorial in the one that approaches the nature, the essences, the marvels
of the landscape, the memory and the tragic circumstances that determine the
daily life of the towns of the Caribbean.
  
Jean Girigori was born in the Republic Of the Dominican Republic in the year 1948,
of father curazole�o and mother of the Dominican Republic. During 13 years he/she
lived in Puerto Pr�ncipe, Haiti, where I carry out their first studies and it was
partner of the famous one painter and Haitian writer George Paul H�ctor. In 1968
he/she carries out its first individual exhibition in Puerto Prince's Cumbio Studio,
under the orientation of the own George Paul H�ctor. In 1970 it exposes for
first time in a collective way in the Republic Of the Dominican Republic (Airway
Quisqueyana) and to the following year it participates in an exhibition in the one
Montego Beach Hotel of Kingston, Jamaica.
  
In 1972 Jean Girigori it installs their atelier in Curazao. Among 1977-79
he/she carries out four individual exhibitions in the Gallery you Liberate, the one
I center pro Art and the Cultureel Centrum Cura�ao. From 1978 up to 1980
he/she studies in the Art Students League of New York, under the orientation of the one
recognized North American artist Knox Mart�n. In this last year it exhibits
their work in the Art Students League and in Women's Art Gallery of New
York. Between 1981 and 1983 it returns to the Art Students League of New York
to receive sculpture lessons under the professor's orientation and
sculptor Jos� of Creeft. Jean Girigori has lived in Haiti, States
United, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Republic Of the Dominican Republic and Holland. His

De 1985 j'ai donn� la poursuite � la trajectoire artistique de Jean
Girigori. J'ai affront� le d�fi, le stimulus et la provocation comme
virtualidades d'une attitude spirituelle et un entra�nement artistique
vraiment exceptionnel. Pendant mais de 30 ann�es cela a consacr� l'artiste
le curazole�a a fini par emporter une production vaste et suggestive
illustr� dans celui qui approches la nature, les essences, les merveilles,
du paysage, la m�moire et les circonstances tragiques qui d�terminent le
vie journali�re des villes du Cara�be.
    
Jean Girigori est n� dans la R�publique Du R�publique Dominicaine dans l'ann�e 1948,
de p�re, curazole�o et m�re du R�publique Dominicaine. Pendant 13 he/she des ann�es
dans Puerto Pr�ncipe, Ha�ti o� j'emporte leurs premi�res �tudes et c'�tait partenaire
du c�l�bre peintre et �crivain George Paul H�ctor Ha�tien. En 1968 l'he/she emporte
le sien en premier lieu exposition individuelle dans le Studio Cumbio de Prince Puerto,
sous l'orientation du propre George Paul H�ctor. En 1970 il expose pour
en premier lieu chronom�trez dans une entr�e collective la R�publique Du R�publique Dominicaine (Route a�rienne Quisqueyana) et � l'ann�e suivante il participe � une
exposition dans celui Montego Beach H�tel de Kingston, Jama�que.
    
Dans 1972 Jean Girigori il installe leur atelier dans Curazao. Parmi 1977-79
l'he/she emporte quatre expositions individuelles dans la Galerie que vous Lib�rez,
celui, Je centre pour Art et le Cultureel Centrum Cura�ao. De 1978 jusqu'� 1980
l'he/she �tudie dans l'Art �tudiants Ligue de New York, sous l'orientation de celui,
l'Am�ricain du Nord reconnu artiste Knox Mart�n. Dans cette ann�e derni�re il expose
leur travail dans l'Art �tudiants Ligue et dans l'Art Gallery de Femmes de Nouveau
York. Entre 1981 et 1983 il revient � l'Art �tudiants Ligue de New York

le sculpteur Jos� de Creeft. Jean Girigori a habit� au Ha�ti, �tats,
Uni, Jama�que, Puerto Rico, R�publique Du R�publique Dominicaine et Hollande. Le sien

v�cu un artiste de la femme de la r�gion du Cara�be dans les dernier ceux trois
d�cades.

artistique parmi la jeunesse, mais aussi dans les espaces et les institutions

int�r�t de la critique, les galeries et les mus�es du Cara�be Hispanique pour

Leur production illustr�e extraordinaire, leur honn�tet� et audace une heure
de l'invention de leur monde visuel vibrant, leur chauffez un et energetics

pauvret�, oppression et la d�ch�ance de beaucoup d'enfants, filles et adolescents
de Domingo Sacr�, Jama�que, Ha�ti, Curazao et autres villes du Cara�be,
L'Afrique et l'Am�rique latine.
    
Cependant, le travail illustr� de Jean Girigori fait pas seul contenez le
objection de la r�alit� et du cadeau. Son aussi vous retroalimenta
avec le tr�sor de leur vivencias, de leurs affaires personnelles. Leur temp�rament
il est verrouill� vers les illusions, vers la po�sie, en permanence
vers la c�l�bration de la richesse du temps, de la vie, du
