GDNet discussion

Dear Misticos,

World Bank is currently running a forum on GDNet (Global Development Network) web strategy.

An issue, or set of questions, will be identified for each of the four weeks that the discussion will run. Questions which are likely to arise include:

  • Which similar online networks exist and how might GDNet complement these initiatives? How could duplication be avoided?
  • What should the mission and objectives of GDNet be? Who should its primary audience be?
  • What are the knowledge exchange and networking priorities of policy and research institutes utilizing GDNet? Should the primary focus be on supporting collaboration and knowledge sharing, or on disseminating the outputs of GDN members' research? * What incentives could be used to ensure active participation?
  • Should GDNet restrict access to certain elements of the web site? If so, to whom? What information should be restricted? and; How should it be restricted?
  • What should the role of GDNet's regional networks be, how should "hubs" be chosen, and how would they interact with the overall governance structure of GDN?

The URL is: http://www.worldbank.org/devforum/forum_gdnwebstrat.html

  • what is your opinion on the "global development portals/information gateways"?
  • Do you believe they can really add the cutting edge knowledge/information to the development arena?
  • Do you know any success/failure stories on this topic, or similar ongoing experience?

Thanks
