Challenging International Position in Research for Development

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a public corporation created by the Canadian Government to help societies in the developing world find solutions to social, economic and environmental problems through research. IDRC is one of the leading institutions in the world concerned with generating and applying new knowledge to meet the challenges of international development. IDRC supports research in developing countries on key problem areas and builds international networks to share and apply this knowledge.

IDRC is seeking applications for the position of Co-ordinator, Evaluation and Learning Systems for Acacia (ELSA) for its office in Dakar, Senegal. The position reports to the Executive Director, Acacia.

Acacia is a major IDRC-led initiative which aims to empower sub-Saharan African communities with the ability to apply Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to their own social and economic development (www.idrc.ca/acacia). A distinguishing feature of Acacia is its Evaluation and Learning System (ELSA). The primary role of ELSA is to establish integrated mechanisms for the collection, analysis and feedback of information concerning the implementation and results of activities supported by Acacia. IDRC is seeking an experienced professional who will assume overall responsibility for the development, coordination and implementation of the Evaluation and Learning System of the Acacia program. In essence, the goal is to establish research and evaluation activities to serve learning at the project, program and organizational levels within Acacia and its partner organizations. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in a field of research relevant to evaluation and learning systems, a solid background in the field of ICTs, and 10 years of professional job-related experience, including at least 5 years in Africa. (S)he should have proven research, managerial and leadership skills. Candidates should be fluent in French and English.
