I have found these ideas extremely useful as at the moment I am
looking at the educational system and how the transmission of values
affects the well-being of the society in general. The social issues
of violence and lack of confidence in our own community values have
to be addressed and the sooner the better. The problems of the gangs
(maras) is now a social phenomenon and we can no longer afford to
turn our eyes away or send the army to rectify the situation. Our
response must be with the same social instruments that have alienated
these masses of youths and desperate community members. It is our
responsibility. I believe that education can help but it must be
education which not only gives hope but also gives members capacity.
The Spanish word 'capacitacion' helps us conjure the needs of the
system. I also like the idea that not always we need to view
everything from the economic/market perspective.
