THIS MESSAGE REPLIES TO RICARDO GOMEZ, Specific Use of the Internet in the LAC, 03/12/99

No, I don't find that there is a Latin American way to use the Internet, but I believe that if some characteristics of the use can be pointed out in our region. Is the proportion of youths that uses the Internet higher (will it be that we have many youths?), the use of the Internet more as half of communication that of information (does adult traffic in chats and and-mails that navigating the WWW) (will it be because it is cheaper than the telephone and efficient that the mail?), the use of the Internet outside of house (more than anything for the youths). Another thing that it astonishes me the quick adoption speed it is: while here in Europe the consumer thinks if it will be he useful or not, if it will leave him very expensive, if he needs or not, in our countries who can pay it he already has the last sophistications at home, although it is not sure for what reason. What impedes the massive penetration is the high cost, you don't win them. Of course these are my personal impressions, based on an investigation on the Internet in Lima comparing with the use of the Internet in Holland, where more than people's 50% have access to the Internet.
