I remember about a year ago when I sat in a hotel
in Dominican Republic for long periods of time,
concentrating very hard to make up for my low
comprehension of Spanish at the time. I could
probably write all of this in Spanish now, but
since English is a minority language in the
region and on the MISTICA list, I shall assert
myself and - in doing so - shall assure that
many will not read what I have to write.

I remember people spending hours over phrases,
wording, and other things such that I believed -
perhaps foolishly - that this discussion was
important. That people were concerned, were
serious, and that they really did want MISTICA
to move forward.

I remember placing my support through a single
Trinidad and Tobago dollar, which has since
been used up - perhaps in a toilet somewhere.
I remember that there was a lot to do with
cooking. I remember that there was supposed
to be a lot of followup, and I remember
asking once or twice on this very list about
what was happening. I remember hearing a lot
of ways in which things were supposed to move
forward. I recall discussions of a website
which was to use beta software (which I was
not happy about).

I have read in response to the originating
message about how profound the problem is.
My, how people love their problems - they
cherish them, they feed them, they nurture
them - and they grow so attached to them
that they do not wish to solve them. Let
me be frank. I have not seen a single
concrete step, I have seen no action
other than the discussion of action.

Perhaps the memories of sitting outside
the area where the pizza was, drinking
rum and tequila and singing in Spanish
with good friends... perhaps that is
enough, and perhaps with that I should
find some closure with MISTICA. I am
surprised to find that this email list
has survived so long without it being
taken over by the MISTICA community.
Perhaps the most profound problem is
that the community does not think it
is worth taking over - or most assuredly,
by now, it would have.

To my friends, Salud! To those indifferent,
pretend I said something nice, and to my
enemies - find something reasonable to
hate me for. :-)
