FIRST DRAFT OF THE POLITICAL CHAPEAU
The first draft of the Political Chapeau and some additional text on
chapters one and four of the operational part will be discussed at the next
meeting of the Group of the Friends of the Chair (GFC), which will take
place on 15 November 2004 (full day) and 16 November (afternoon only) in
the Palais des Nations, Room XVII (Door 40, first floor).

UNITED NATIONS ESTABLISHES WORKING GROUP ON INTERNET
GOVERNANCE
Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today the establishment of the
Working Group on Internet Governance. The Working Group will prepare the
ground for a decision on this issue by the second phase of
the World Summit on the Information Society, to be held in Tunis in
November 2005.

THE AFRICA ELECTRONIC PRIVACY AND PUBLIC VOICE
SYMPOSIUM
The purpose of this Symposium (December 6, 2004 in Cape Town, South Africa
) is to bring together African NGOs, technical experts and policy makers to
discuss privacy and freedom of expression, the World Summit on the
Information Society and Internet policy development. It is an opportunity
for the public voice to be heard on issues such as safeguarding electronic
privacy and protecting online speech, as well as
African perspectives on Internet governance and the World Summit on the
Information Society.

UPDATE ON INDYMEDIA SERVER SEIZURES
One month after the harddrives were taken out of the servers Ahimsa I and
II in London, indymedia had many responses from civil liberty groups and
professional journalist organisations. Legal steps are being taken
or considered on both sides of the atlantic. The US State Attorney (ie the
lawyer for the US government) has responded to a Motion to Unseal the
server seizure court order in the US.

MORDECAI VANUNU WAS RE-ARRESTED IN ISRAEL THIS MORNING: IMMEDIATE
SOLIDARITY ACTIONS REQUIRED
Mordechai Vanunu was arrested this morning in his room at St. George's
Cathedral in East Jerusalem, by a huge police force (about 30 armed
officers). The pretext for his arrest: Vanunu violated the Draconian
restrictions that were imposed on him when he was released from prison in
April, by giving interviews to foreign media.
