I may have missed the point of the MISTICA-T: Re: Consulta sobre
recursos discussion but ...
In English we say that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and it
seems to me that translation is where we should be concentrating. Talking
to Mistica I wrestle with Spanish with a little help from my friend the
automatic translation system :-) But the problem is much bigger than that.
I have virtual friends in South East Asia and China - we are forced into
English because I don't understand Urdu or Mandarin or the language they
speak, and I truly don't have time to learn :-(
I realise that I am in the presence of mathematicians :-) but I do not
trust statistics. I feel that statistics is a very good way of distracting
people from the main point :-)
So as well as a football league of "which language scores most on Google"
(and I see also what you are doing and why) can we please spare some energy
to consider possibilities for a universal translation system which would go
a long way towards making the statistics redundant?
