MISTICA: Re: Mistica2 en acción

I am following MISTICA but saying little (for two reasons: my lousy Spanish and
plenty to do as it is.).
Funredes is one of the good organizations that is still focused on deliverables
and not "the dance of the donors and ngos". Keep at it. I have two small pieces
of advice (stories to tell).

Thirty years ago I was the founding chair of the board for a cultural
organization. The organization what the idea of a person running a small art
gallery and coffee house (with entertainment). He wanted two things, the
capacity to grow a big organization on his good ideas, and a reasonably decent
steady income where he was not always putting all his food money into the
business. We formed a non-profit corporation in which he would be the managing
director. I asked about how long his job contract should be. Over my initial
objections we agreed that it would be for 10 years subject to review by the
board if something went very wrong. I changed my view and agreed with I
realized that if he did not do a good job the organization would collapse so
we should give him full leadership control. The organization is now 30 years
old, holds events that have a 2-3 day turnout of 250,000-300,000 people, etc.
and he is still the director!
Keep up the good work.

The second piece of advice has to do with the absolute failure of the Internet
Society's Internet Societal Task Force (ISTF) and its replacement ISDF. I
belong to both and they have been unable to forumulate and execute a single
online collaborative project over half a decade. My advice here is for MISTICA
to simply pick two or three of your "leaders" to propose something the are
interested in and already doing, then recruit a team that will work with them,
and do it under the unbrella of MISTICA. That is where all the good will and
trust come into play.

Sam
