The experience with automatic translation (see http://funredes.org/emec) is
that it is quite unappropriate, and close to unethical to use it for
document translation (except as an aid for an individual making
translation). And I would say exactly the same for web navigation.
This has to do with the difference between communication and information.
While in communication there is feed-back and the automatic translation is
understood as a tool for mutual understanding, offering a "translation" of
a document by software and publishing it as such is a lack of respect toauthor. In EMEC we have made a basic principle not to offer document
translation by automatic mean.
Yet your point is correct and this is a serious issue for the future of
MISTICA since translation is both a strong requirement and a costly
venture...
