Right. Additional competition is worrisome, but... who knows! good
indifference may be better than bad "cooperation".
I had a wonderful boss at UNICEF-HQ in New York. He was from Ethiopia. He
used to tell me that Africa would be in a much better situation today if a
huge wall - something similar to the Chinese wall, he used to say - would
be built around Africa. No more colonial powers telling Africa what to be,
what to think, what to do. I happen to dream sometimes of a similar wall
around Latin America... So much "cooperation" has increased our dependency
and our external debt, what for? Who owes who, is the question...
In fact, we whould think of a South-North collaboration day - I am going to
propose it, seriously. Why does'nt anyone consider this possibility? Again,
really amazing how "naturalized" relationships and inequalities have become
in today's world.
