NETWORKS AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Because one of the regional offices of FUNREDES is located in Venezuela, no wonder that numerous actions take place directly or indirectly in connection with this country.

So is the case of a long way of relations with the National Consulting of Scientific and Technological Investigations (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas, CONICIT), in its condition as owner of the academical and scientifical telematic network, inicial known as the 'Sistema Automatizado de Información Científica y Tecnológica, SAICYT' and earlier known as the 'Red Académica Cooperativa de Centros de Investigación y Universidades Nacionales, REACCIUN'

P. Liendo was member of the Assisting Group Ad Hoc of SAICYT and of the Directive Committee of REACCIUN in two opportunities.

FUNREDES contributed distributed information about SAICYT to the english-speaking world: See "The SAICYT of Venezuela" (P. Liendo, Internet Society News, Vol.1, No.2, 92)

Sometimes it was considered more convenient first to show the profound reflexions of REACCIUN in a written form before the authorities of CONICIT and before a public opinion: See "About the Academic Network of the Center of Investigation and National Universities, REACCIUN", P. Liendo, July 1995), letter directed to the president of CONICIT for his consideration and its announcement.

Actually, FUNREDES goes on with conversations to offer technical advice to REACCIUN in special areas.

 

FUNREDES integrated itself in the group of institutions which finally founded the Latin American Network School (Escuela Latinoamericana de Reded, EsLaRed). P. Liendo was member of the Organization Committee of the second Latin American Network School, opened in Mérida, Venezuela in Nov. 95. See the program of the second Latin American Network School.

 

Together with the Panamerican Federation of Faculty Associations of Medicine (Federación Panamericana de Asociaciones de Facultades de Medicina, FEPAFEM), FUNREDES participated in the formulation of different initiatives like:

• "Modernization of the administration of informational resources at the level of the Department of Sanitary and Social Assistance" (Ministerio de Sanidad y Asistencia Social, MSAS), P. Liendo, August 1993.
• "Strenghtening the National System of Biomedical Documentation and Information" (Sistema Nacional de Documentación e Información Biomédica, SINADIB) in the field of the integrated health project about investigation and control of 'land endemics' in Venezuala." P. Liendo, February 1994.
• Making plans for a workshop about induction and leading consulting for an assisting group of FEPAFEM, May 1996

The petroleum industry of Venezuela contracted the services of FUNREDES to realize a sensibilization program in the field of the Emergent Information and Communication Technologies. This was directed to the office of PEQUIVEN, a filial of the petrol complany of Venezuela.

Later it was contacted by CORPOVEN and it is found in conversations with the CIED for similar initiatives.

 

P. Liendo, as character of the regional director of FUNREDES, forms part of the editorial consulting group of the 'Foro de Informació' magazine. In its third number appeared the article "New Communication Environments". The ideas where inicially expressed in the following event: "A compass to the Internet and the Cyberspace", CELARG. Caracas, Venezuela, Nov 95.
