The Global Information Internship Program (GIIP) is an initiative sponsored
by the Center for Global, International and Regional Studies (CGIRS)
located at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Its objective is integrate excluded groups into the benefits of the
information revolution. GIIP raises the informational capacity and
organizational effectiveness of community, civil society, and
non-governmental organizations by strengthening their ability to use
internet-based information and communication technologies. Its long-term
goal is to "democratize" access to information technology by bolstering the
technical and organizational skills of grassroots organizations committed
to resolving critical social problems at global and local levels.
GIIP places trained "info" interns with civil society and community groups.
GIIP interns work to overcome the inequalities and tensions arising from
the new global economy and the information revolution.
