Absolute results

From the relative numbers obtained by FUNREDES, of other factors such as the number of internauts by language, a parallel intersection with the preceding results, as well as studies, is determined the absolute distribution of the English, the Latin languages and the German in Internet. The results can be considered more or less worthy of confidence with a margin of 10%.

Doubtlessly, the values of absolute presence are not a perfect indicator of the force of a language in the networks. In order to obtain a significant result, must provide the values that express the presence of the languages in Internet in correlation with their presence in the real world. The relative presence of these languages is calculated without totally considering the factor of "plurilingualism".

Vitality of the production of information of the internet users by language

If we make a relation between the maternal language or second language of the users of Internet and the amount of pages produced by these communities,is obtained an estimation on the productivity of the speakers of Latin languages.

Conclusions

Since 1998 to 2005, english has lost weight in percentages (not in absolute numbers), going down from 75% to 45% with respect to the presence of the other languages in the Web.

Although the number of Latin languages-speakers is superior to the number of English-speakers (near 780 million against 630 million), the percentage of Latin-speakers with access to the Internet is inferior to the number of English-speaking internet users(215 million against 300 million).

The productivity of Latin-speaking in the Web is inferior to the English-speaking (1,57). In the Latins the French-speaking stand out (1,14), whereas the productivity of the other Latin-speakers is : Spanish-speaking (0,66), Italian-speaking (0,81), portuguese-speaking (0,55) and romanian-speaking (0,70)

Perspectives for the Future

A evolution of the Latin languages is observed; however, they could have a greater presence.

The presence of the regional Latin languages in the Web is limited; only one voluntary policy in the matter of linguistic and cultural diversity will be able to contribute to its development.

He would be advisable to stimulate the use of Internet in Latin-speaking countries, in order to balance his presence in the Web in agreement with his density.

The Latin cooperation can play an important role in this motivation.
